I'm playing outside today with a new toy (of course, I'll show you more on that soon). While out there I decided to really enjoy myself and cut a bundle of roses and lemons from the garden and put them in a $10.00 jar from the flea market. It felt so indulgent, cutting them to make my creative time more pleasant...just for me. Isn't that silly? Cutting and arranging them is happy making itself! How could I have forgotten that?
It's the simple things in life, right? I'm determined to see that and work on living that more and more. For the holiday weekend, we went to Palm Desert with friends. On the last night,
after the nightly game of flashlight tag on the golf course (where I was most often "it"-or should have been, but they took pity on me- due to the fact that I was afraid to run full speed for the "safe" lantern on a hilly golf course in the dark...am I getting old, or is the back surgery too prevalent in my mind? Probably a bit of both), we all lay down on the grass looking up at the stars. After a few of the kids said they saw shooting stars (all at different times), and there were doubters among us, I said, "I hope we all see a shooting start that is undeniable go across the sky". Right then, and I mean right when I finished saying that, we did! It was thrilling! We all shouted at the same time, struck by the magic moment. My girlfriend said I literally kicked my legs back and forth in the air. Now, I'm not sure about that, but I do know that moment, the excitement we all felt and shared together, will bring me happiness for years. Joy, it's as simple as seeing a shooting star with some loved ones.

Your roses are just beautiful. Lucky you to be able to just walk out in your yard and treat yourself to a bouquet!! And laying on the ground looking for shooting stars--who could ask for anything more!!

What a sweet story. I wonder if that was your wish (seeing the star at the same time) or if you got to have another one when you saw it? I bet you got another one.
Have a lovely week.

What a great post... and cutting a bunch of roses and lemons to arrange for yourself is certainly not silly! It is one of those simple things that brings a smile to your face and joy to your heart... and when you share it... you spread that joy. I try to put at least one flower on my desk at the beginning of each week. Sometimes it's a bunch of wildflowers, sometimes a hand picked flower (from my garden, a landscaped area or parking lot or the roadside... today it was a fuschia colored Crepe Myrtle bloom from the Target parking lot... shhhh) or a store bought bouquet! Then I take a picture of them with my phone and send it to friends.

What a good story. I love it when that kind of thing happens! I was just thinking tonight about your flower journals from way back when (I was looking at my roses to see if there was an inkling of hope for a bloom...not yet..) and hoping you would post something about your fab roses soon, and viola! Thanks for that~

Pam,
Those roses look like the old fashioned kind. Please tell me that they are fragrant like the old style too.
Talk about leaping for joy! What a great pic! Sounds like an ideal weekend. What great memories for a memorial weekend.

Ooohh! Those roses and lemons look so beautiful in the old jar and they remind me of my grandma who used rosewater-glycerin soap to wash her face and her hugs and kisses always smelled of roses.... How wonderful to see a shooting star together. You're right... it is all about the little things and family or friends is everything.
